Here I go again! Wednesday May 2nd, I will be volunteering as a special guest for McHappy Day. You will find me at the McDonald's, corner of Carling and Maitland. This is the home of my little brother Paul's first place of employment. He still has his uniform - green pants - nice!

This McDonald's has recently been renovated and I hear they have the double drive-thru. Yikes! I was overwhelmed last year with the single. I'm thinking Will Ouellette (Manager) won't put me there this year... I like to chat too much (as some of you already know). I was good at 'fries', after my initial dropping, spilling, over filling incidents. However, I excelled at 'McFlurrying', if I do say so myself.

On this special day, funds raised helps support our local Ronald McDonald Charities. So...treat yourself and you'll be helping our community at the same time.

A big thank you to John Coughlan (Proprietor) of The Clock Tower Brew Pub (Bank Street at Isabella).

A spur of the moment location change resulted in my client and I arriving at The Clock Tower half an hour prior to their opening. John was kind enough to allow us in early so we could meet. Staff was friendly, helpful and very kind considering we were there during their opening/set up time. They quickly started a pot of coffee so we could order and enjoy a delicious cup.

BFF - Best Fun Fundraiser

You won't want to miss this 'hot' fundraiser next year. It was for a fabulous cause; The Hospice at May Court, AND it was a blast....literally, featuring Barry & the Blasters, Ottawa R&B band.

Additional heat was generated by the Manotick Volunteer Firefighters, who were selling their 2012 calendar during the event. They were also selling tickets to a draw for a chance to win a dinner for 10, prepared and served by the calendar firefighters. One lucky lady is now getting ready for a very fun and delicious dinner.

Firefighter calendars are still available and can be purchased by calling Lt. C. Grandinetti at (613) 875-9410.

Hot Fundraiser

You'll want to check back next week so see how it goes...this Saturday Feb. 11, I am attending a special 'hot' fundraiser at Pier 21, featuring Barry & the Blasters, raising funds for the band's chosen charity; The Hospice at May Court .

In addition, The Hospice at May Court has partnered with the Manotick Volunteer Firefighters to raise, much needed, additional funds. Not only will a group of The Manotick Volunteer Firefighters be at this show, they have also published a 2012 calendar which they will be selling for just $20 at this event, with a portion of the proceeds going to The Hospice at May Court. But that's not all. Buy a calendar at the event and receive a draw ticket for a chance to win a dinner for 10, prepared and served by the calendar firefighters. In addition, for every donation of $5 to The Hospice that evening, another draw tickets and another chance to win.

Time to Dust!

Just a quick reminder to all...your computer does require cleaning periodically. Computer fans are there to keep your system cool. If they become clogged by dirt, dust, pet hair etc, they cannot spin adequately. As a result of poor ventilation/cooling you risk over heating and damage. It is just like your car, you need to keep your 'engine' cool...heat is a problem for your computer's hardware. A clean computer runs faster and will operate more efficiently.

I suggest doing this outdoors to keep dust from spraying all over your room. While turned off, open your PC case, by removing the side panel. You can remove the dust by spraying with condensed air (canned air) or with a compressor (if you have the small tools necessary to direct to specific areas).

We recently took a look at an individual's computer which had not been cleaned in years.

Beware of Phone Scam

I want to be sure you are all aware of this phone scam regarding an 'error report' from your computer.

It was evening and my home phone rang with a 'no name/no number' on the caller ID. It was someone claiming to be from Microsoft and claiming that an 'error report' had been submitted from my computer and this person needed to fix this for me asap.

Knowing this could not be an authentic phone call, (Microsoft will not make this type of unsolicited call), I was nevertheless polite and assured him I would check and that I do have all the necessary software to solve any issue and protect my system. "No you can't" was his reply. I told him I own a company that provides computer technology and would have staff review. Again, "they can't help you with THIS"... ooo ahhh ... scare tactics!

Not this time buddy...here's what I think...'click off'...I just hung up. Here is a link with further information regarding this type of scam;

They must have used a phone book as they asked to speak to me by my phone listing information. They don't know if you even have a computer, but it is a very high probability that you do. They are hoping to reach the inexperienced or elderly.

OK, I walked in the CIBC Run/Walk for the Cure on Sunday morning. It was an amazing morning, so many people, so many stories, so many lives - all touched by breast cancer. A beautiful sea of PINK sending ripples of hope out to reach us all.

My brothers, Jamie Parmelee and Paul Parmelee ran for me...how great is that! My two crazy brothers, probably exhausted from a busy Saturday night out...getting up early to pick me up and head out in the cold to run for me.

My brother Jamie's wife Sandra also joined and walked with me to keep me company and, despite a very sore hip, kept walking and smiling at everyone.

Again...how lucky am I !

Thank you so much to everyone who walked/ran/participated in any way (volunteers - you are amazing!). A special thank you to Gail Linscott and Brenda Guevremont for their support, and my family and friends and Jason for helping to get me through my treatments. I love you all.

CIBC RUN FOR THE CURE - I'm Walking

This Sunday (October 2nd) is the CIBC Run For The Cure and I am participating. Ok, not actually running, but walking. I registered with my hyphenated name - Susan Parmelee-Wolfenden so all us 'Parmelees' will be listed together.

I have joined my brother, Paul Parmelee's team - Moodie Mustangs, along with my other brother Jamie and his wife Sandra. As a fitness instructor, Sandra (Sandra Fit) will certainly keep me walking and has been getting me in shape with her pilates class.

Who am I walking for...
- for my three daughters (Jessica, Haley and Kelsey) and my hope and prayers that they are never further touched by this disease,
- for every woman who has had to, or will have to, battle this disease,
- and for me... recalling my battle and all the help and support I received during my surgeries, chemo, radiation, reconstruction.

I would like to ask, and encourage, you to donate, under my name, or to my team, or to the cause in general, as every little bit helps.

As a breast cancer survivor, I would like to say thank you very much to each and every individual who participates and helps to raise funds to beat this disease.

We've been working hard to launch the latest version of eWee CMS v2.0. The updates include a lot of tweaks and additions that keep eWee fresh and exciting. Some of the greatest additions are snippets / shortcodes. These are single lines of code that embed technologies / features like PayPal buttons, YouTube Videos, iFrames to pull up external site and much more. Another feature added was the ability to utilize web fonts to give extra styling to your web page headings. Golf Tournament for GREAT CAUSE!

I was reading the Ottawa Citizen earlier this month and noticed an article that touched my heart. It was about a man and his wife struggling to handle his disability and the associated ongoing and escalating costs. Unfortunately his situation seems to fall through our health care 'cracks' and his wife works two jobs while caring for her husband, who is a quadriplegic. I found this story familiar and started to wonder if this was a family I had heard about via my friend, Louise Lougue. When I turned to the remainder of the article I saw the picture of Rick and Suzy Harrison - Suzy bears a startling resemblance to her sister; Louise.

I am attending this golf tournament, volunteering where ever I can and hope that if you read this article you will be unable to stop yourself from signing up. While I already knew how wonderful this family is, when I read the extent of their strength and determination in the face of advertisity, I was in awe. You will be too.

Local Lawns Believes in Community

It is the kind of offer you usually can't believe...someone at your door offering to do work for you for FREE. Well, it was Friday morning and I was home recuperating from being ill and my doorbell rang. It was two young people who offered to cut my grass for free. Clearly my grass needed cutting but I had not been up to the task. I thought there was no way this was legitimate and I was not falling to this trick...but after a number of questions and very clear and up front answers I decided to let them go ahead and cut my lawn.

Mitch and Laura of Local Lawns (www.locallawns.ca) were in the neighbourhood and had finished all their clients' yards and decided to offer free lawn cutting to whomever they could fit in for the rest of the day. Mitch is one of the franchisees and his territory is Barrhaven and Riverside South. As a University student, he looked upon this venture as the opportunity to start his own business while generating his own summer employment.

Not only did they cut my front lawn, but also the back lawn. They included the edge trimming and blowing any extra clippings off my walk way and patio. I was very impressed, not only with their work but also with their community spirit. They truly believe in giving back and this was a way to do so and to also do a little personal marketing.

Would I recommend their services to anyone in need of yard maintenance - ABSOLUTELY. In fact, I have recommended them to a number of people who have asked about this type of service and I recommend them to all of you. McHappy Day

Did you see me at McDonalds? Wednesday May 11th was McHappy Day, an annual event at McDonald's, where a percentage of the day's sales go to charity. I was very McHappy to join in the fun at the McDonald's located at 1880 Carling Avenue (Carling & Maitland).

Manager, Will Ouellette, started me off in 'fries'. Wow, they serve a lot of fries. Took a bit of time but I finally got the hang of how to hold each size; small, medium, large, x-large.

Next I was brought into the exciting and fast paced world of 'drive thru'. Holy moly! I could barely understand what was going on as everyone worked in unbelievable co-ordination to organize drinks, check orders, add condiments, and serve each customer as they drove past our window. Kudos to all you drive-thru employees.

Lastly, I was given the honour of making my favourite, the Creme Egg McFlurry. Of course no one could get that puppy out of my hands once I had finished the mixing. I needed a good stiff McFlurry after the stress of learning how much work is really involved at the various work stations of McDonald's. You all work very hard and I appreciate your efforts so much more now that I have tried it.

Thank you to McDonald's for a wonderful charity event, thank you to all the customers who purchased and supported McHappy Day, and thank you to all the employees at McDonald's - Carling & Maitland for your hard work and your patience with me.

If you had a chance to visit our Website during the holiday season, you would have noticed the beautiful winter theme we designed to showcase our new eWee CMS Website management tool. With eWee it's extremely easy to customize the look and feel of your Website. All we had to do, to get the "EchoUs" look back to its common look, was to change text colour, titles colour, links colour and upload/update three images; the logo, header image and background image...and that's it, a totally updated/different looking site.

Easy, Useful, Shortcuts!

Here are a few PC shortcuts, well, maybe more than a few to help you save time! There are many more, but I'm showcasing some of the more useful ones. Make it a habit of using this shortcuts, I have and it saves me a whole lot of time!

Windows key + E = Explorer

Windows key + D = Show the desktop

ALT + Tab = Switch between windows

ALT + Space + X = Maximize window

CTRL + Shift + Esc = Task Manager

Windows key + Break = System properties

Windows key + F = Search

Windows key + D = Hide/Display all windows

CTRL + A = select all

CTRL + C = copy

CTRL + X = cut

CTRL + V = paste

CTRL + Z = undo

ALT + F4 = Quit active application or close current window

CTRL + F4 = Close active document or group windows (does not work with some applications)

Windows key + M = Minimize all open windows

Shift + Windows key + M = Undo minimize all open windows

Windows key + Break = Open the System Properties dialog box

F1 = Open Help for active application

F2 = Rename selected item

F3 = Search / Find

SHIFT + DELETE = Delete items permanently without placing in the Recycle Bin

In your Browser's address bar, type in any name, e.g "google", then press CTRL + Enter. This adds the "www." and ".com" to word and submits.

Try out some of these shortcuts yourself to save time and impress others!

Our new Web Radio Stream Player has launched and we're excited about it. Our original Web Streams required having Winamp installed...not anymore. Our new player is Flash based so no more worries. You can tune in two ways, through our new Web site (or on this page - top right hand corner), as a pop-up player or alternately, and even better, a downloadable player which you can install to your PC and launch from your desktop for easy access 24/7. We manage the radio streams on our end, so if we add a station or a station is down, we'll take care of it for you.

Any requests for addition stations, let us know and we'll do our best to add it to the list.
